New Year's Party Update
- First
the first time ever, a Middle Bass New Year's Eve Party last Dec. 31 at
J. F. Walleyes
restaurant on Middle Bass. This event is expected to become an annual
one, replacing the party at the Town Hall that was held in past years.?
Chris Zeitler and Marika Gross, who operate Walleye’s, considered it a
community event, and spent 3 times as much money as it brought in. They
flew in a 7 piece band, which took two full airplanes, with the help of
Tom at Griffing Air. They served a Prime Rib Dinner, with cheesecake for
desert, and gave all that attended a collector champagne glass engraved
with "2008 New Years" and "Walleyes" on it. They also gave each couple a
bottle of champagne and had a beautiful toast at midnight. The customary
tradition of a balloon drop at midnight was carried out with help from
the Town Hall and John Glauser. The celebration also had a 50-50 raffle
with proceeds to benefit the Town Hall and Fire Department. Jimmy Wolf,
a former islander and employee of Karl Schmidlin, won the 50-50, and
donated the entire amount back to the island! All together about 60
people were in attendance, and we believe everyone had an outstanding
time. Walleyes is sure they will be doing this again for 2009.
Middle Bass
Rentals, which represents properties on the island, was able to rent
units for the evening for folks interested in the event. - January 16,

Ferry still running at P-I-B
- The ferries are running to Put-in-Bay -- at least for now. "This is a
question we get asked regularly this time of year --the season where
traditionally we should be setting up ice shanties and adding a few
freshly caught walleye on the table," said Julene Market of the Miller
Boat Line. Port Clinton New Herald, January 11, 2008
